Meet Alexandra E.

24/7 newborn care chicago

Alexandra is a birth and postpartum doula on our team. She completed her postpartum doula training with Kathrin Auger at Los Angeles Doula, her birth doula training with Ana Paula Markel at Bini Birth, and her abortion companion training with Jacoba Cruz-Rodriguez at the Chicago Women’s Health Center. Alexandra uses evidence-based information to help her clients make the best decisions for their labor, birth, and postpartum experiences and particularly enjoys conducting physical comfort measures such as acupressure, massages, the use of birth and peanut balls, rebozo techniques, aromatherapy, and playing music during active labor to help alleviate both physical pain and any accompanying anxiety, while providing consistent words of affirmation and encouragement.

As a postpartum doula, Alexandra takes pride in helping clients with breastfeeding routines, self-care recovery measures, parent-infant bonding techniques, and newborn sleep habits. Advocacy is, in her opinion, one of the most crucial aspects of being a doula, and Alexandra always makes sure to equip her clients with self-advocacy skills when communicating with their care providers to ensure their needs (and their baby’s) are properly met during all stages of the perinatal period. It is also important for her to let her clients know that they are the experts on their own lives and to instill in them the confidence to make decisions for their bodies.

Alexandra is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northwestern University with the goal of specializing in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). She originally become a doula to gain practical experience with the perinatal population. Since becoming a doula, she can confidently say that it has been one of the best decisions of her life.

Outside of doula work and her graduate studies, Alexandra enjoys playing and writing music, traveling, cooking, staying active (strength training, indoor cycling, and running are her go-to’s)
