Meet Nyehla

Chicago Doula

Nyehla is a well loved labor doula, childbirth educator, and lactation counselor on our team. She has trained with DONA, Birth Advocacy Doula Trainings, and Sista Midwife Productions. In addition to Nyehla’s doula trainings, she has trained with Spinning Babies, an organization that teaches birth professionals labor positions to help facilitate space in a birthing person’s pelvis and support optimal fetal positioning for childbirth. She has experience supporting families with various birth goals, preferences, and needs but especially enjoys supporting first time parents, young parents, queer couples, and families desiring a home birth.

Nyehla’s fascination with human anatomy and physiology, commitment to social justice, nurturing spirit, and reverence for childbirth merged together and inspired her to become a birth companion in 2016. Her favorite part of being a doula is witnessing families expand, teaching and learning about all things childbirth, and growing her community through the connections she fosters with families. Nyehla believes that birth is a communal and sacred initiation for a family that requires community care and support. Families often describe her doula style as inquisitive, validating and nurturing.

In her free time, you’ll likely find Nyehla daydreaming at Lake Michigan shores, planting her bare feet into soft soil, sharing meals with her community, strategically and playfully losing at a game of chess, or drumming on the djembe.
