Meet Ruth
Ruth is a well-loved postpartum doula on our team who trained through DONA and has supported families in many capacities over the past many years. She is a mother of three and grandmother to four and has been married to her husband for over 40 years. In that time she has lived abroad and built homes for Habitat for Humanity, fostered children who traveled internationally for life-saving surgeries, and opened and managed a community coffee shop that was the first of its kind in her neighborhood for almost 13 years.
She absolutely loves supporting families and is a true nurturer and lover of babies and children. Spending time with families and her own family brings her so much joy and she sees the immediate benefits for all. She nannied two of her grandchildren from birth to school age. She loves regularly spending time with all four of her precious grandchildren and enjoys exploring nature with them, as well as the culture of this amazing city.
Families describe Ruth as a natural people-person. Families instantly feel her love and joy and feel her true interest in learning about their family. Ruth is a strong support for all families. She is comfortable with a variety of cultural backgrounds, religious preferences, and individuals and families of all kinds.
In her spare time Ruth is an avid reader and loves spending time in nature as much as possible.

“My family used Chicago Family Doulas twice with our second born and we were so happy with both experiences! Our daughter was born during Covid and since we do not have family nearby, we had nobody to watch our toddler during the delivery. We (somewhat reluctantly) decided to look into hiring a doula and have my husband stay home with our son, but when researching, we found the sibling doula service offered by Chicago Family Doulas and it fit our needs perfectly! Taylor arrived the evening I went into labor and stayed with my son until I was discharged, allowing my husband to be present for the birth of our daughter. When my daughter was 2 months old, my family was preparing for a move overseas and I was struggling with some postpartum anxiety along with caring for 2 under 2, so we reached out to Chicago Family Doulas again. We were connected with Ruth, a postpartum doula who arrived the next day to help! We will forever be grateful to Ruth for helping our family the following 2 months as we adjusted and prepared for yet another life change! Ruth was incredible with both of our kids – playing with our 17 month old and teaching him words, songs, etc. and also soothing our colicky daughter and giving me time to rest, do housework, run errands and feel human again! When I reached out to Chicago Family Doulas, i knew my family needed help but i didn’t know exactly what we needed… and what we needed was Ruth! I cannot express my gratitude to Ruth and Chicago Family Doulas enough for their support during a very hectic and trying time.”
