Meet SJ

chicago doula

SJ is an experienced certified full-spectrum doula since 2018. She is experienced in supporting families during pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum.

As a labor doula she has supported families in hospitals and at home, through vaginal births and caesareans, inductions and intervention-free labors.

As a postpartum doula she has experience supporting parents with postpartum depression and anxiety, parents who have experienced prior loss/grief/miscarriage, and those recovering from c-sections and difficult births. She will unconditionally respect and support your decisions around infant feeding, whether you choose to breastfeed/chestfeed or bottle-feed (or both!). SJ also provides overnight support and sibling support and she will give your pets lots of love too!

SJ has always been drawn to caretaking roles. In undergrad, she volunteered for three years as Emergency Medical Technician, an experience which nurtured her ability to provide a grounding, supportive presence for individuals who are experiencing stressful health-related situations. SJ brings this same energy to her work as a doula and is passionate about ensuring that every person is able to have a safe, informed, and empowered pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience.

SJ is also a public health graduate student at the University of Illinois – Chicago studying Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology and has a B.A. in Neuroscience from Amherst College. Her work as a doula is driven by her values around reproductive justice and birth equity.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her dogs, knitting sweaters and blankets, and taking care of her many houseplants.

Families describe SJ as caring, confident, incredibly helpful, amazing with their baby, kids and entire family.
