Meet Veronica
Veronica (she/they) is a DONA postpartum doula on our team, as well as an infant mental health specialist. She has 15 years of experience providing support and care to families with young children in various settings, including overnights in the homes of clients and hosting group workshops for expecting or new parents. Veronica is passionate about using evidence-based practice to provide affirming and inclusive trauma-informed care for the whole family. Veronica is excellent at focusing on meeting parents wherever they are in their pregnancy or postpartum journey and evaluating gaps in families’ spoken and unspoken needs.
Veronica holds a BS in Human Development and Family Studies with a focus in Child and Adolescent Development from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MS in Child Development with a specialization in Child Life from top-ranking Erikson Institute in Chicago. After receiving her MS, she worked in pediatrics as a Certified Child Life Specialist and decided to return to Erikson for a postgraduate certificate in Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health.
In addition to these credentials and many years of career experience, Veronica has multiple certifications, such as infant massage instruction, and she continues to stay up to date on the latest developments and trends within the field. She is proficient in supporting families through complex situations, as she has unique clinical experience working with NICU graduates, children born with medical complexities, teen parents, and survivors of assault.Â
Veronica prioritizes providing comprehensive, empathetic support to a diverse range of families across the city and suburbs, including parents who are navigating healthcare challenges of parenthood as queer people of color, as Veronica herself is queer and biracial. She is a loving and involved auntie of five spunky nieces, all of whom she cared for in infancy and early childhood.
