When preparing them in your home we provide you with a placenta transport kit and you would would give us a call to schedule a time that is convenient for your family. We know life with a newborn can be busy, so we will work around your schedule and can accommodate any circumstance we are here to make this process as stress-free as possible. You don’t have to do anything to prepare or provide us with anything, except access to your sink, a stovetop burner, and an outlet to plug in the dehydrator. Its very easy on your end. We will be sure to leave the kitchen cleaner than we found it. We will clean and sanitize your kitchen when we arrives and before we leave.
One perk about in home encapsulation is the fact that your encapsulation specialist is also a postpartum doula and you will have her in your home where she can offer ideas and insight to your recovery and your baby. Adriana, is one of our encapsulation specialists who offers in home encapsulation. When she arrives she will talk about your birth and answer any questions you have about breastfeeding or newborn care. She has a wealth of information and is a Postpartum Doula, Infant Care specialist, breastfeeding counselor, labor doula and certified infant massage teacher. She is prepared to give you a little extra postpartum support while at your home.

When we prepare the capsules in our home we make an arrangement with your family to pick up the placenta from the hospital. We aim to pick this up soon after you deliver. When we pick up the placenta we will spend time talking with you about the birth and answer any questions that you have about your birth, baby, breastfeeding, encapsulation as we all are labor and postpartum doulas offering this service.
Your encapsulation specialist will begin immediately following the food handlers guidelines. (Our doulas are trained in managing blood borne pathogens.) She will start by sanitizing all equipment and her kitchen with bleach. She will process the placenta and have it returned to you in pill form as soon as possible. We aim to have you consuming the pills within 30-48 hours of your birth. One perk of having us encapsulate in our home is the turn around rate can be a bit quicker.
The process of encapsulation includes:
Cleaning, sanitizing and preparing the workspace; cleaning the placenta under cool running water.; steaming the placenta over boiling water. Using the traditional Chinese Medicine method; ginger and lemon are used for your healing. This may also help with the odor and taste of the pills. The placenta is thinly sliced and placed in the dehydrator. It dehydrates for 18-24 hours.
On the second day, we finish the encapsulation process. Again, the kitchen and work-space will be cleaned and sanitized before getting started. The dried placenta is ground into powder and put into capsules. You will have a product that looks like an herbal supplement. Your encapsulist will sit with you and carefully go over the consumption guidelines for taking your placenta pills (You will also receive written instructions.) In addition, she will again happily answer questions that you have about your recovery, breastfeeding and baby.
