Meet Amber

doula chicago

Amber is a certified birth and postpartum doula on our team who is trained through International Doula Institute. She is proud to say that IDI trains doulas to support all families, regardless of birthing style, birthing goals, personality style, family style, or parenting styles. She is so grateful to support families through their births and postpartum journeys.

Her love for birth work was sparked by her own experiences during pregnancy, as well as those of her closest friends and family. She quickly realized the resources that SHOULD be available to all expectant parents often times are not, and that even with the greatest of care from her OB, there was entire world of childbirth education, comfort, and support that could have been at her fingertips.

As a birth doula, she strives to help parents discover confidence and empowerment, through evidence based education, and by making decisions that leave them with feelings of positivity and satisfaction surrounding their birth story. She is an advocate for expectant parents by creating space to ensure their decisions and voices are being heard. Her skillset includes supporting high risk pregnancies, induction of labor, and cesarean sections in the hospital setting, as well as low intervention, unmedicated births in birth center settings. She also has an Advanced VBAC Doula certification.

As a postpartum doula, Amber’s skillset includes hands on newborn 101, breastfeeding counseling, caring for the birthing parent both physically and mentally during their recovery, and encouraging parents as they navigate this new role set before them. She loves helping create positive sleep habits over time, with a strong emphasis on establishing an “eat, play, sleep” pattern. She has supported families with high demand jobs that required a quick return to work or school, parents experiencing postpartum anxiety and depression, single mothers, parents who experienced a traumatic birth, those who have had extreme difficulty breastfeeding, preemie babies, and babies with a milk protein intolerance, food allergies, asthma, and difficulty sleeping.

In her free time, Amber loves spending time and creating memories with her husband and two daughters, camping, apple picking, going to the beach, and nurturing her children’s minds through reading, play, and creativity.
